Snowing in east Texas – Video Podcast

It snowed a lot in east Texas today. Never happens. So our 5th grade science teacher took the initiative and taught the water cycle outside in the snow. The kids loved it. We knew the snow would not last all day, so he did a video podcast about it. Check it out here.

This is his first adventure into podcasting, so let him know what you think in the comment section here. We have big plans to do more science podcasts along the river in Beavers Bend State Park in Oklahoma in the near future. Stay tuned.

  1. What a great teachable moment for a science teacher. Love the quote “You can’t get away from science” (or something like that). Scott, I’m assuming you didn’t use the Flip for this because the audio was great — wireless mic perhaps? Should have had a snowball fight! Good job!

  2. You are close. We used the Sony Net Share, but I cheated on the audio. I mic’d him up with an Olympus digital voice recorder. I knew that I would have audio issues during many parts of it since we were going to be outside, so I chose that route and added the track to the video. We are going to explore the wireless mic option for future use. This was a good learning experience for all of us since the weather added a new dimension for us.

We ordered four Flips and are getting the waterproof case as well. We are headed to a state park for a weekend with the same science teacher to make podcasts as we canoe down the river. The flip will work best for this, but I have to figure out the audio part still. He might can just voice over when we get back.

Thanks for the comment. I will share it with him.
